Move of the Week: Chaturanga Dandasana (a.k.a. Four-Limbed Staff Pose)

This week it’s time to focus on one of those yoga poses that has the ability to both empower and frustrate…Chaturanga Dandasana, otherwise known as Four-Limbed Staff Pose or that crazy yoga push up. Chaturanga shows up all the time in Sun Salutations and in the traditional “take a vinyasa” sequence, but the truth is that few of us are ready to rock a full on Chaturanga safely and with good form. BUT it’s okay; we can get there! Therefore, this week I’ve decided to share a series of articles designed to help us build strength, understand proper form, and grant ourselves permission to modify and go slowly while learning this pose.

Benefits:

~ strengthens the core and the upper body

~ strengthens the wrists

~ prepares the body for arm balances and inversions

~ encourages a strong mind/body connection

~ warms the body
